Ink Experiments

Our music video contains imagery that is made through ink running in water. Experiments needed to be done to make sure that this would work and to see how the ink would fall in the water and what it would look like.

I did the experiments in the sink and it was purely to see how it worked. I ran the water and dripped drawing ink, quink and food colouring into the water.

Cast List

Screen Test Task

Today we did a screen test for our lead singer. This consisted of using the camera and playing the song. The purpose of this task was to run through the song with the song with the performer.

We ran through it three times to get to grips with the song and also changed her movement slightly through it to see what we wanted.

Animatics

We first started our animatics by producing our story board for our music video which we split between the four of us so we all had the same amount of pictures to draw. We used the cameras to film each picture from our storyboard which was a ten second shot. We then uploaded these clips to the computer and started editing and eventually it fell together. We were pleased with the process of it but we found it hard to get the beat of the song right with the pictures which was the hardest part of it. We edited it between us so that we all knew how to work the software but it also meant we could all put our different ideas into our animatic. We tried our best to make the pictures match the beat of our song but when we watched it back we realised we hadn't quite got it right but this was good as this then meant that we would be more aware of it when we come to edit our actual music video.

When we watched them back we recorded feedback on our animatic of our other class friends and teachers views on it. They liked it but there was a few things to criticise. We have uploaded this so you can watch the video but this was also very useful to us as it meant that we could listen to others ideas and improve on our idea for our final music video.

Writing to the Record Company

4AD is a British independent record label that was started in 1979 by Ivo Watts-Russell and Peter Kent, funded by Beggars Banquet.

The 4AD Records is a huge world wide record company. Purity Ring are signed to the record label. They specialise in more new and upcoming artists and there signed artist or bands tend to be more towards the alternative/indie records.

Artists currently signed to 4AD include; Ariel Pink, Bon Iver, Camera Obscura, Deerhunter, Gang Gang Dance, Grimes, Iron & Wine, The National, Purity Ring, Scott Walker, St.Vincent, Twin Shadow, Blood Diamonds and Tune-Yards. Notice that all of these artists/bands are not names of ones that are heard week to week on radios 'top 40' and are more 'indie' records.

As part of copy right Issues and wanting to use the song in our A-Level music video we have to send an email to the record company asking permission to use there song. It is important that we state in our email that it is purely for educational purposes and no commercial usage, meaning we are not looking to make any money out of the music video.

Here is what we wrote the record company:

Story Board

In the process of drawing up our story boards we used a range of different techniques to illustrate the pictures. As a group none of us are particularly good at drawing so as you can see, especially in the illusations towards the end we have printed of images in order to portray a stronger message of what we want our shot to look like, this makes it clearer for the person looking at the story board.
